Pantone’s 2012 Color of the Year
While we don’t necessarily encourage following trends when it comes to your home decor it is always interesting to wait and see what Pantone, the “global authority on color and provider of professional color standards for the design industries”, dictates as the Color of the Year.
For 2012 it turned out to be Tangerine Tango!
Bring Spring In
Florida Today has a great article on easy ways to get your home ready for spring. Follow their 10 easy steps to make your interior match the bright, airy, warmth of the new season.
1. Clear it out. Remove clutter from surfaces like bookshelves, coffee tables, side tables, etc. If you decide to redecorate, try to use fewer items to keep the space feeling open.
2. Refresh your furnishings. If your furniture is starting to look a little worn, consider having it professionally cleaned or reupholstered to give it new life. Buying new furniture and selling or donating your old pieces is also a great way to update your home.
3. Bring the outdoors in. Place fresh flowers around your home to truly celebrate the season.
4. Let the indoors out. Your outdoor space should be an extension of your interior. Show you style outside with some great landscaping and interesting outdoor furniture.
5. Go lighter, brighter. Replace your darker colored decor items, such as pillows, blankets, duvets and vases, with lighter colored ones. Oranges, greens, yellows and Pantone’s color of the year – Honeysuckle – would certainly brighten any room.

Pantone’s 2011 Color of the Year

Pantone has announced the 2011 Color of the Year – Honeysuckle.
Leatrice Eiseman, executive director of the Pantone Color Institute® had this to say about the color…
In times of stress, we need something to lift our spirits. Honeysuckle is a captivating, stimulating color that gets the adrenaline going – perfect to ward off the blues. Honeysuckle derives its positive qualities from a powerful bond to its mother color red, the most physical, viscerally alive hue in the spectrum. The intensity of this festive reddish pink allures and engages. In fact, this color, not the sweet fragrance of the flower blossoms for which it was named, is what attracts hummingbirds to nectar. Honeysuckle may also bring a wave of nostalgia for its associated delicious scent reminiscent of the carefree days of spring and summer.
So, what do you think about the 2011 Color of the Year?

“Hi! So I saw on all my favorite design blogs that turquoise is the color for 2010. I was thinking this may make a good wall color for my twins’ bedroom – a boy and a girl. I figured it might be good because it looks good with pinks (for my daughter’s side of the room) and greens (for my son’s side). Are there any good turquoise paint colors out there or would you suggest another color that is fairly gender neutral?”
The Pantone Color of the Year for 2010 is…
Turquoise (PANTONE 15-5519)!
This Year’s Hot Hues
Leaders of the color industry advisory groups have spoken and yellow and purple are said to be the hot colors for 2009 in both fashion and home furnishings.
Pantone, a provider of professional color standards for the design industries, has selected “mimosa” (Pantone 14-0848) as their color for the year. They report that “in a time of economic uncertainty and political change, optimism is paramount and no other color expresses hope and reassurance more than yellow.” The Color Marketing Group (CMG) has chosen colors influenced by both the economy and our outlook on the future. CMG, the leading international non-profit association of color design professionals, shares that purple is not a fad, but “an entrenched trend, strongly influenced by the election. (After all, red plus blue equals purple.)”
