Guest post: Modern homes in DC
Today’s post comes from mid-century modern enthusiast and D.C.-area Realtor Michael Shapiro. Michael works diligently to share his knowledge of local mid-century modern and modern homes, and to help support the preservation of mid-century modern architecture in the nation’s capital. He is also the mastermind behind the blog, Modern Capital, which is full of great information on mid-century modern real estate, design and events.

D.C. and the surrounding suburbs is a traditional place with very few mid-century modern homes. Right? That’s the conventional wisdom I hear from many people I talk to, including many fellow real estate agents, when I tell them about all the communities I have featured on my blog, Modern Capital. While the D.C. area may be dominated by older, traditional homes and newer McMansions, if you scratch beneath the surface and explore a bit you can find a world of interesting mid-century modern neighborhoods across our area. Knoll introduces “knoll kids”
Knoll now has a full line of children’s furniture, including seating and tables. The sizes of many popular Knoll pieces such as the Mies van der Rohe Barcelona chair and Eero Saarinen Womb chair have been reduced to suit a new clientele, the Knoll kid. Available in many of the Knoll fabrics (which include a number of very durable, easy to clean options), these pieces embody Knoll’s commitment to quality and modern design.
“While this is Knoll’s first foray into the children’s industry, these new offerings embody the modern design aesthetic and superior level of quality for which the brand is known”, said Senior VP, KnollStudio Liz Needle. “We believe the launch of knoll kids will set a new standard in the children’s modern furniture industry.”
The Great Outdoors: The Ivy Collection
Last week we blogged about Emu’s new Heaven collection. Today we’d like to share another new introduction from Emu - the Ivy Collection. Designed by Paola Navone, this collection is inspired by the art of topiary. The goal was to create “furniture sculptures”, light and minimal, that expose the versatility of metal.
The collection is complete with a sofa, chair and tables- each available in white, orange, light blue or turquoise.
