What a way to start the new year than to realize that one of our favorite design blogs, Cococozy, did a post on random things she likes and Vastu’s Farilillo pendants were on there!  We’re super excited to have one of our products featured on this site – so thanks Cococozy!

Tip-toe through the tulips…

September 8, 2009 · Posted in Home decor, Lighting fixtures · Comment

The tulip table lamp is a recent introduction from Belgian lighting company, .MGX.  Acclaimed designer, Peter Jansen is behind this innovative design that is part of the .MGX E-volution collection.

All .MGX designs, from lighting to jewelry, are created using revolutionary 3D printing techniques.  They are built up layer by layer using a laser technology called 3D layered manufacturing.  This process shapes, in most cases, a single piece of material without using seams or joints.  .MGX works with some of the top architects, artists and designers from around the world to create pieces that are near impossible to recreate using any other type of manufacturing process.

Spotlight on: Janne Kyttanen

Who is Janne Kyttanen you ask?  Kyttanen in the man behind these lamps…

The Lily and Lotus lamps (both available as table lamps or floor lamps) designed by Kyttanen for lighting company MGX – are created using rapid prototyping technology, which is a 3D material printing process allowing for freedom of design far beyond the capacity of traditional manufacturing processes.

Janne, born in Finland in 1974, is considered a pioneer in the world of rapid production and rapid prototyping (digital manufacturing).  He got his start studying industrial engineering in both Barcelona and The Netherlands.  During his studies, Kyttanen proved that rapid prototyping technology could be used as manaufacturing tools.  For his thesis he created a line of rapid manufactured products.  After graduating he took a role at a prestigious industrial design bureau as a freelance designer and 3D visualizer.  Kyttanen held this role for about two years before branching out on his own.  He founded Freedom of Creation in 2000 and the rest is (a very successful) history.

Design blog MoCo Loco did an interview with Janne Kyttanen not too long ago.  You can check it out here.
