Open House at Northern Exchange

It’s fairly obvious that 14th Street is in the midst of big changes. You read countless blog posts, even here on Design Clique, on the new developments, stores, restaurants and bars that are opening in our neighborhood.

Well, we’re just going to add one more. This weekend, October 13th & 14th, real estate development company PN Hoffman is holding an open house at their newest project, Northern Exchange, located at 1401 R St. NW.

Besides getting a close-up look of the progress on the converted and renovated telephone switchboard building, you’ll be able to tour the two model units which were designed and furnished by Vastu!

Check out some photos of Vastu co-owner, and model unit designer, Jason Claire setting up the model units with new Vastu designer Nadia Powell.

In this post, we’ll show you how Eric Kole, Vastu co-owner, transformed the kitchen, living room, guest bedrooms and bathroom from dark, crowded and outdated spaces into luxurious, spacious rooms befitting a swanky Palm Springs abode.

New paint on the walls and flooring, a thoughtful collection of furniture and whole lot less clutter really cleaned up those bedrooms, and there’s still more to come! Next time, I’ll be revealing the media room, the master bedroom and bath and the fantastic outdoor living areas.

Do you have a space that needs Eric’s personal design touch? Then consider taking advantage of Vastu’s Design Services.

Before & After: Poolside in Palm Springs (Part 1)

Vastu co-owner Eric Kole recently bought and remodeled a property in Palm Springs, California and the before and after images are like night and day!

Before Eric took over the home it was crowded, extremely dark and didn’t have a clear personality or sense of style. Actually, it did have a personality: dark, kind of depressing and dumpy. The interior and exterior of the home did not fit with the swanky feel of Palm Springs. I mean, this house is next door to Frank Sinatra’s house! It should be spectacular.

Check out the first set of photos below to see how Eric achieved it!

Wild for Wallpaper

Wallpaper. Love it or hate it, you have to admit that we’re seeing a resurgence in its use. Whether you apply it all of the walls in a room or use it to create an accent wall, the wallpaper of today may surprise you.

Wallpaper manufacturers are making lots of changes that may just surprise you. Various textures, finishes and even digital printing can all find their way onto your wallpapered walls.

While we tend to keep our clients’ walls neutral, sometimes a space just screams for a large graphic wallpaper or maybe even the slightest shimmer of a metallic finish. Here are just a few of the ways our Vastu designers like to get wild with wallpaper.

Stoking the Flames

Stix Fireplace by EcoSmart

This morning in DC was a little chilly, which only served to remind me that summer is just about over.

And while it’s been great and fun, I can’t help but get excited for Fall! The air smells different. There are some great holidays right around the corner. Fall clothing brings rich textures and colors to outfits everywhere. And there’s always the opportunity to cuddle up with your loved one under a cozy blanket, preferably by a warm fireplace.

Fireplaces are great in that they can serve as a fully functional heating source, a beautiful design element in your space or both! Regardless of how they’re used, fireplaces (in all their shapes, sizes and styles) bring a touch of character and romance to your home.

Check out how Vastu’s designers have incorporated fireplaces, originally existing or not, into their designs! (Pictures Below) Read more

Vastu and Chesapeake Home + Living

Just a heads up to all you Design Clique readers to keep a look out for the next issue of Chesapeake Home + Living magazine for a feature story on the Corcoran Street Rowhouse designed by our very own Eric Kole.

The article Hollywood Glamour, by Scott Sowers, showcases the Victorian-era townhouse in Logan Circle that Eric updated with Vastu’s collection of “warm modern” pieces to match how “the couple wanted to combine the home’s old world charm with the modern  lifestyle of its new owners”.

It’s a great article and the photos by Timothy Bell are gorgeous!
