In honor of Independence Day, Vastu will be closed Thursday, July 4th, 2013.
We wish everyone a happy and safe holiday!
A couple of weeks ago we received samples of some brand new fabrics from KnollTextiles that we love!
Part of The Chelsea Collection, Soon, Glider and Biscayne feature lively colors and graphic, modern imagery.
And even more interesting than Cardenas’s designs and use of color is the inspiration behind Soon. This digitally printed, 100% cotton sateen fabric comes in four colorways and was inspired by a song of the same name by one of his favorite bands, My Bloody Valentine.
“The song is interesting to me because it uses rhythm and noise in an unexpectedly harmonious way. A strong beat shrouded in an instrumental haze creates a textured field where the instruments all blend into each other.”
So what do you think? Does the music match the fabric?
Happy Independence Day!
Vastu will be closed Wednesday, July 4th, 2012.
We will reopen on Thursday, July 5th at 11:00am.
From the seller’s product description:
“Chances are if you were drawn to this clutch you know all about Ray and Charles Eames – American designers who’s work exemplifies Mid-Century modern style.
This clutch is made from authentic Eames Small Dot fabric by Maharam featuring an off-white design on a black background. (I completely SPLURGED! on this fabric.)”
Maharam is a favorite upholstery supplier of Vastu’s, and the Small Dot Pattern by Ray & Charles Eames was designed for the Museum of Modern Art’s Competition for Printed Fabrics in 1947.
KnollTextiles has introduced three new upholstery fabrics as part of their Vista Collection. Here’s a look at Framework, Grandview, and Zipline.
In Rue Magazine’s third issue there was a piece called ‘Rough Around The Edges’ which featured a number of home furnishings inspired by the idea of an imperfect circle. When we saw this we immediately thought of one of our upholstery fabrics – Loop’s ‘Foundation’ textile. Foundation is available in 8 different colors (shown below). It would be a great upholstery choice for pillows, an ottoman, chair, or even a headboard.
KnollTextiles recently introduced a number of new upholstery textiles. Here’s a peek at some of the items from the new collection…

Well, we covered steps 1 and 2 yesterday, so now we can move on to steps 3 and 4 of the Vastu personalized upholstery process.
Step 3: Fabric or Leather
You can choose from hundreds of different fabric and leather swatches located throughout our store for your Steven Anthony upholstered piece. We’ve got some amazing choices – everything from incredibly durable microsuedes, top grain leathers, velvets, gorgeous woven upholstery, and more. We carry well recognized names in the world of upholstery like Maharam and Designer’s Guild. And while we’re confident most customers will find a fabric or leather they like from our numerous options, you do also have the option of providing your own upholstery. We want to ensure you’re getting exactly what you want!
Step 4: Legs and Frame
Wood legs and wood trim details are available in 16 different stains and finishes. Legs are also available in varying heights and a few different shapes. If you prefer your sofa, sectional, bench, ottoman, chair or bed had metal legs, no problem! You can choose from metal post legs, L-bracket legs and metal trim details – all available in a brushed or polished finishes in varying heights.
The beauty of some of Maharam’s textiles are their bold patterns with large repeats. Not sure what a repeat is? The “repeat” of a pattern is the distance between any given point in a design to where that exact point is repeated again. Fabric can have both a vertical and horizontal repeat.
