Designer Spotlight: Yves Béhar

July 19, 2011 · Posted in Artists, Herman Miller · Comment

Yves Béhar (1967-Present)

Birthplace: Switzerland

Herman Miller Products: Leaf Personal Light, Ardea Personal Light, SAYL Work Chair

Born to a German mother and Turkish father, this Swiss-born industrial designer studied at the Art Center College of Design in California.

For a relatively young designer, he has had a remarkable career. A graduate of the Art Center College of Design, he started out working with high tech Silicon Valley clients such as Apple and Hewlett Packard, eventually gravitating into the sport, apparel, technology and furniture arenas.

His collaboration with Herman Miller came about through one such conversation. An admirer of Charles and Ray Eames, Béhar decided he wanted to do something for the company himself. “Design is very much at the center of Herman Miller’s culture,” he says. “So one day I just picked up the phone, called them, and said, ‘Let’s work together.’”

Four years later, Herman Miller introduced his two brilliantly innovative lighting products, Leaf and Ardea.

The Coffee Table Conundrum

July 14, 2011 · Posted in Interior design trends · 1 Comment

So the other day as I was reading up on the various blogs I follow, I came across this post about coffee tables on Apartment Therapy. In it, they posed the question “What’s On Your Coffee Table?”

That got me thinking, is there really a right and wrong way to decorate your own coffee table? Or do you even need to?

Read below to find out what Sarita Peresada, one of our designers, had to say.

Summertime, and The Livin’ Is…HOT

July 12, 2011 · Posted in Outdoor furniture · Comment

With heat advisories lasting well into the evening today, we’re not advocating you spend a whole lot of time outside. However, we shouldn’t allow this summertime heat to completely deprive us of enjoying our outdoor spaces (if you’re so lucky to have one). With that in mind, check out these great outdoor pieces…if you can handle the heat, that is.

This Just In: Hot N’ Cold Glasses

July 8, 2011 · Posted in Interior design trends · Comment

We just received a shipment of our Hot N’ Cold glasses by Erik Bagger (thanks UPS)!

Each 10.5 ounce glass is nestled in a rubber sleeve and comes in 5 great colors: blue, purple, pink, lime green and black.

They’re stackable, dishwasher safe and can be used for hot or cold drinks.

The Hot N’ Cold glasses come in sets of four, but you can always mix and match if you don’t feel like getting them all in one color, and after careful consideration decided to keep them in their individual color sets. You could, however, buy two sets of different colors and still mix them up!

Come stop by and check them out today!

Etsy Find: Black Tulip Chair Pillow

June 24, 2011 · Posted in Eco-friendly design ideas, Home decor, Knoll furniture · Comment

The idea of furniture imagery on an accessory like a pillow becomes very meta, but we’re loving the way Lisa Pascarell for Studio Tree pulls it off with this pillow cover featuring a Black Tulip Chair from Knoll.

Even better, the pillow cover is eco-friendly!

“The chair has been sewn using ecospun felt , which is made from recycled water bottles, except for the red seat cushion, which is natural wool felt. ( sustainable resource).”

Outdoor Fireplaces by EcoSmart

June 23, 2011 · Posted in Eco-friendly design ideas, Outdoor furniture · Comment

While the last thing you may want to think about during these hot summer days is a fireplace, EcoSmart has a line of beautiful ranges that will most certainly add a touch of style to your outdoor spaces.

Completely portable, these clean-burning ethanol ranges can be moved around to fit within your existing layout. And because they’re made from weather-resistant materials, you don’t have to worry about bringing them indoors to protect them.
