Invented in 1971, Ultrasuede comes in 22 standard colorways (and tons more with a minimum yardage). This great fabric has a 200,000+ double rub Wyzenbeek rating, is inherently stain resistant and easily cleanable.

This clutch is made from authentic Eames Small Dot fabric by Maharam featuring an off-white design on a black background. (I completely SPLURGED! on this fabric.)”

Maharam is a favorite upholstery supplier of Vastu’s, and the Small Dot Pattern by Ray & Charles Eames was designed for the Museum of Modern Art’s Competition for Printed Fabrics in 1947.

1. Color – Introducing color on a wall, drapery, pillow, side chair or rug among neutral colors will really warm things up.

2. Texture – Mix various upholstery textures, incorporate a shag rug, or consider textured wallpaper to add interest and soften hard edges.

3. Personalize with accessories – You don’t want to clutter your room, but don’t be afraid to include personal items around your house. A few family photos and/or items you’ve collected from your travels displayed on a shelf will make your home for inviting.

In Rue Magazine’s third issue there was a piece called ‘Rough Around The Edges’ which featured a number of home furnishings inspired by the idea of an imperfect circle.  When we saw this we immediately thought of one of our upholstery fabrics – Loop’s ‘Foundation’ textile.  Foundation is available in 8 different colors (shown below).  It would be a great upholstery choice for pillows, an ottoman, chair, or even a headboard.

Step 5: Seat and Back Cushions

You may choose how many cushions you would like for both the seat and back of your sofa or sectional assuming the style you choose has loose cushions.  All of our loose seat cushion sofas are made standard with down-wrapped foam cushions. Step 6: Cushion Firmness

You can change the firmness of the foam core of your upholstered piece to suit your level of comfort and/or the function of the item.  For example, you may prefer a relatively soft foam for your sofa because you intend to lounge on it quite a bit, and the most firm foam available for your ottoman since you want to be able to place trays or drinks on top of it.

Step 7: Seams

Finally, you get to choose your fabric edge finish. The picture above illustrates (from left to right) a self-welt seam, knife-edge seam, double-stitching and square-tufting. For more on what each of these types of seams, click here.

Step 3: Fabric or Leather

You can choose from hundreds of different fabric and leather swatches located throughout our store for your Steven Anthony upholstered piece.  We’ve got some amazing choices – everything from incredibly durable microsuedes, top grain leathers, velvets, gorgeous woven upholstery, and more.  We carry well recognized names in the world of upholstery like Maharam and Designer’s Guild. And while we’re confident most customers will find a fabric or leather they like from our numerous options, you do also have the option of providing your own upholstery.  We want to ensure you’re getting exactly what you want!

Step 4: Legs and Frame

Wood legs and wood trim details are available in 16 different stains and finishes.  Legs are also available in varying heights and a few different shapes.  If you prefer your sofa, sectional, bench, ottoman, chair or bed had metal legs, no problem! You can choose from metal post legs, L-bracket legs and metal trim details – all available in a brushed or polished finishes in varying heights.
