Custom Furniture – Dog Days Inspiration
We are less than a week away from one of the best neighborhood-wide sales this city sees during the year, the MidCity Dog Days Sale!
As you may have heard, Vastu is offering 15% off all new upholstered furniture orders from Steven Anthony. And while our Dog Days sale includes sofas, sectionals, chairs, ottomans and beds, you may find yourself feeling a little overwhelmed with all of the personalization options we offer. So before you head to our showroom this weekend, why not take a look at some custom client pieces from interior design projects past?
An Uplifting Storage Solution for the Bedroom
Storage is one of those things you never hear people complain of having too much of (and if you are complaining, call me…let’s trade houses). So when a piece of furniture comes with hidden built-in storage space, we get excited.
Enter, the Shaw Uplift Storage Bed.

The Sleeper Sofa
The sleeper sofa, love em or hate em they’re most definitely useful as they can make any space multi-functional. However, people don’t always find them to be comfortable or all that stylish, something that can be discerned by reading the comments section of a recent Apartment Therapy post on the same subject.
A little known fact is that a majority of the custom hand-made sofas we carry can be made as sleepers. All it requires is that you choose a frame that has loose seat cushions (so that you’re able to remove them) and that you pick a size that meets the minimum size requirements (66″ W for a full and 78″ W for a queen, in most cases). And if you’re worried about being able to see the sleeper component at the bottom of the sofa when it’s not in use, then don’t! We increase the size of the lower portion of the sofa (the apron) to conceal everything.
The sleeper component consists of a 4″ innerspring mattress and a 4″ inflatable air mattress. That gives you 8 inches of mattress that prevents you from feeling a crossbar making it comfortable to sleep on.
Co-owner Eric Kole actually has a Metro Sleeper Sofa in his own home that’s used by friends and family when visiting.

Disguised in this beautiful den is actually a guest room waiting to be used...
The best part of being able to custom make sofas is that we have full control over the design of our furniture. If you want a sectional sofa with a sleeper inside, in a grey fabric with wood legs and tufting on the back…it’s totally doable. Just for you.
The Tres Bedroom Collection: Three Times the Modern Cool
We’re excited to share with you a new bedroom collection we just added to Vastu’s website, Tres.
Ultra-sleek, contemporary and elegantly simple, this no-frills collection consists of a bed (in four different sizes), a double dresser, a single dresser, a chest, a narrow chest, and a night table.
We’ll be ordering a couple of pieces for the showroom floor so you can see them in person, but in the meantime….what do you think?
Vastu from A to Z: W, X, Y, Z
‘W’ is for Wassily
The Wassily chair is a Knoll classic. Created by Marcel Breuer in 1925, the Wassily chair’s tubular steel frame and leather belting make for a very sculptural design.
Vastu from A to Z: S, T, U, V
‘S’ is for Stellar
If you’re looking for a simple, clean-lined platform bed, the Stellar platform bed is an excellent choice. But not only is this bed well designed, it is made with environmentally friendly manufacturing processes. The factory has a small carbon footprint and all power used in the factory is hydro-electric generated.
Vastu from A to Z: P, Q, R

‘P’ is for Platner
Sculptural, transitional, iconic – that is the Platner side table. Designed by Warren Platner in 1966, the Platner side table is part of the Knoll portfolio of products. The top is available in a number of glass, marble and wood options, and the base is available in polished nickel or metallic bronze.
Vastu from A to Z: J, K, L

‘J’ is for Jada
The Jada Sconce features handcarved circle on a mirrored surface and antiqued gold frame. This wall light is a great combination of modern style and traditional aesthetics. Sconces can be done in a foyer, bedroom or dining room.
