Trends from Milan 2012 – Upholstery
It goes without saying, but the Salone Internazionale del Mobile furniture show in Milan is an exciting experience for everyone who attends, especially those who are in the design and interiors industries. For Eric Kole and Jason Claire, it’s a chance to see what’s new from well-established manufacturers and to see who’s new in the world of design.
This year they came back with some new lines for the store (more to come on that later) as well as several trends to share with you all. Here’s a small recap…
- Low, light-weight lounge chairs

- Collages of cocktail tables with varying elements

- Rich, saturated jewel-toned colors

- Intricately distressed rugs

The last trend to share with you deals with an upholstery treatment that people either love or hate…tufting.
Diamond or square, formal or almost jokingly (see photo above under “Rich, saturated jewel-toned colors “), tufting made an appearance in more than one booth at the Salone del Mobile. With its versatile look and ability to change a plain ottoman or sofa into a dynamic piece of furniture, tufting is a great way to introduce a trend from Milan into your space.
