Bored with your room…
…change up your artwork! You could add some new pieces or you could reposition your existing artwork. Take the piece from your living room and move it to your bedroom, or make a grouping of work from pieces that currently stand alone. Another quick update that would help bring new life to your artwork and your room would be to have your existing art reframed.
Were you bored with your room, but you made a small change that made a big difference? We want to see! Send us a picture here.

Problem is, we’re not really sure how to tap into my home’s potential so… I need your help. Here’s some pictures of my den. I don’t even know where to begin… What do you suggest I should do with the space that won’t cost a fortune?”

“Art by the Yard” at The Textile Museum
The Art by the Yard: Women Design Mid-Century Britain exhibit opens May 15, 2010 and runs through September 12, 2010. The Textile Museum sites says:
The art of textile design changed radically after World War II as Britain was transformed from a country devastated by war into an optimistic consumer society. Three women designers were pivotal in this artistic revolution: Lucienne Day (1917- 2010), Jacqueline Groag (1903-1985) and Marian Mahler (1911-1983). Incorporating dramatic saturated colors and bold motifs inspired by artists like Alexander Calder and Joan Miró, these young designers transformed the market by inspiring elegant yet affordable product lines that brought the world of contemporary art into everyone’s homes.
Art by the Yard: Women Design Mid-Century Britainwill showcase the work of these groundbreaking women designers, highlighting the work of Lucienne Day, through the display of textiles together with preliminary drawings and collages, ceramics and period furniture, all drawn from the Jill A. Wiltse and H. Kirk Brown, III Collection of British Textiles.

We were able to mingle with some of the top folks in the DC wedding industry – and what a fun crowd! Allison and Chris from A Britton Photography were on hand snapping photos. If you’re wondering how garters and home furnishings mix, we’d say pretty well!
Design Direction: Before & After
Do you have a challenging space or need some design guidance? Design Direction is a chance for you to submit photos or videos of your design challenge(s) and a Vastu interior designer will provide you with some help. Every Wednesday we will feature one reader’s submission.
This week’s Design Direction post is a before and after. Being able to see people achieve the look they want in their home after a little help from us is incredibly rewarding. We were sent some living room pictures back in January. This homeowner was looking for ways to make his space more cohesive. After getting some advice from Vastu interior designer, Jamie, the homeowner made a few updates and the place looks great! Before we reveal the after photos, here’s a look at the living area prior to submitting the design dilemma…
.MGX in Milan
Belgian lighting company, .MGX, had both customer favorites and new items on display this year at the Salone Internazionale del Mobile, a furniture show in Milan, Italy. Vastu co-owners Jason Claire and Eric Kole snapped some photos of the .MGX booth while at the show. The lighting manfucturer had a field of tulip table lamps on display…
New art exhibit: Lynda Ray and Rodger Schultz
Patterns in nature, architecture, and layers of paint on surfaces, are Lynda Ray‘s starting points. She is concerned with time as expressed in arranged layers of shapes. Instead of experiencing time in a linear way, as a narrative to be read left to right, bottom to top, or top down, Lynda looks at time condensed and compressed.
Lighting with exposed bulbs and wires… yay or nay?
Vastu co-owners Jason Claire and Eric Kole have been in Milan, Italy for the past few days at the Salone Internazionale del Mobile, a HUGE furniture show. They’ve been sending us pictures of home furnishings all week, and a definite trend has emerged – lighting fixtures that have exposed bulbs and exposed (colorful) wires. What do you think about this trend… yay or nay?
