“HELP! I found out my mother-in-law is planning to come stay with my family for three weeks this summer.  We don’t really have a guest room… Just a small library.  Any suggestions on how to transform this room from a library to a guest room?  There isn’t any room for a pull-out sofa an we don’t want to spend alot on this project.”

Jamie says…

If you have room for a 78″ sofa, I recommend getting a sofa that length that is at least 38″ – 40″ D with loose back cushions and loose seat cushions.  This way, when the back cushions are removed, the space left is about the size of a twin mattress – a comfortable alternative to an actual bed.  And, the loose seat cushions can be flipped to make sure the sleeping/seating surface stays comfortable over the course of your mother-in-law’s stay.  The sofa solution will definitely save you space by not having a sleeper mechanism that has to be pulled out. Have fun shopping!
