“What’s hot?”

We get asked that a lot here at Vastu. I don’t always answer the way people expect, however. Sure, there are things that are ‘hot’ right now and you’re more than welcome to buy them for that reason alone, but I’m more interested in what you’d like your home to look like both now and in the future. Trends come and go, by definition. Classic style lasts, even if it’s somewhat based on what’s currently popular. As the local retailer for the full Knoll Space line, we carry a lot of classics that have seen a resurgence lately: the Barcelona chair, the Brno chair, anything by Eero Saarinen. They’ve always been there, classic and enduring, just a little more popular now than ever. I wish I had the vision to predict tomorrow’s classics but I do know there’s an easy way to help the furniture buying decision along: simply ask yourself if you think you’d make that same decision a couple of years from now. If you’re feel confident you would, there’s your answer.

Oh, the answer to “what’s hot?” right now: it’s still pale purple fabrics, walnut finishes and matte white lacquers. And I think they’ll last.
