“I have a quick question.  What are the rules about sofa seat height and coffee table height?  I recently bought a table and then returned it because it looked too high in front of my sofa.  I figured I’d get a professional opinion before making another purchase.”

This is a great question!  Generally, I’d recommend getting a coffee table that is about 1 or 2 inches shorter than your sofa seat height.  But, personal preference and the seat height of any other seating in the space also comes in to play.  A good way to gauge the prefect table height for you would be to sit on the sofa and stack books in front of you until the stack reaches a height you feel comfortable reaching towards.  Once you get a height you feel good about, measure it and keep that dimension in mind for your coffee table purchase.  Have fun shopping!
