Matters of the art

August 11, 2009 · Posted in Artists, Bedroom design ideas, Living room design ideas · Comment

Art is great way to add color and interest to any space.  It’s something very personal and can function in a couple ways for your room.

Large, colorful, or carefully grouped artwork can give a room the focal point to define and create a mood.

Look what we found! #4

How fun and vibrant are these silkscreen prints, titled “Side Chair on Grids“ from Miss Moniker’s shop on Etsy?!?!

There were five silkscreen prints done. Each print is unique, as it varies both in background colors and in registration. Also, each piece has been signed and numbered by the artist.

The prints were done on Arches Cover white printmaking paper. The sizes of the prints vary slightly, but they’re all around 8″ x 11″ with deckled edges.

If you like, the artist will mount the piece (free of charge) on 11″ by 14″ lightly textured, off-white paper for easy framing.

New Art Exhibition – Now through Oct 4

Vastu is pleased to welcome two artists from the DC area for our current exhibition.

Vastu is pleased to bring back Campbell Maloney for another show. Campbell chose fifteen basic shapes – circles cut systematically – that can be rotated to create all 26 letters of the alphabet. The elegant brilliance of the formula is matched by the striking visual impact of its result. The shapes are arranged and oriented as solitaires, words or collections, equal in size or scaled proportionally and over-imposed. The designs evoke flatness and depth simultaneously.

Maryanne Pollock‘s second show at Vastu uses an expressive layering of sand, sumi ink and paint to evoke ephemeral micro and macrocosmic worlds. Intricate brain wave patterns, aerial views of deserts and cityscapes are alluded to and ultimately imbued with a luminous palette. Plein air studies of Cairo, Istanbul, Paris, Washington, Utah and Rehoboth Beach inform her paintings. These boldly abstract inner-landscapes are simultaneously energetic and serene with pure transcendent color.

Hello Designers,

I have two mirrored top side tables with wood legs.  I need a coffee table and I’m feeling like a mirrored top table would be too much mirror… What sort of coffee table should I look for?

Thanks!

For those of you that made it out to the Midcity neighborhood this past weekend can attest to the fact there were hundreds of people walking around, shopping it up! (especially on Saturday, before the rain)  Get a glimpse of the weekend in a video from Borderstan.com.

The Fojol Bros. food carnival stopped right in front of the store on Saturday afternoon, Cork served up lemonade in front of their new Cork Market location, Home Rule was flooded with people (as usual), and kids had a blast at events held by Source.

Things at Vastu were festive as well.  We rocked out to 80′s music all weekend, had impromptu sing-a-longs, and even had a few customers dancing!  We had lots of folks take advantage of the custom upholstery sale and we were thrilled by the number of people who had become a Facebook Fan or Twitter follower and were able to enjoy additional savings.

Hats off to the Midcity Business Association team for all the work they did to organize the businesses, develop marketing materials and get the word out.  You all are the best.  And to all the folks that came out to support this annual sales event – a very big “Thank You!”.
