New art exhibition: Now thru August 3

Vastu is excited to welcome two artists from the Northeast for our current exhibition.

(yellow/blue)

Vastu’s art director, Brian Petro, is back for another show. Brian’s new work is inspired by a homeless man he saw when he was 9 hauling trash by hand, his father who taught him carpentry and other hands-on life skills, and his grandfather who had a dirt floor workshop in a house that he built himself. Brian uses the many lessons learned over his years to use cast-off materials to show beauty in objects that most people hope go directly into a landfill.

Shawna Cross juxtaposes the conscious with the subconscious, reality with desires, and current time with memories. Cross’s paintings merge the visual with the emotional making color produce sound and form evoke an emotional response. Each painting presents the blurred movement and rhythm of thought in the moments that transcend the distinction between the conscious and subconscious – a snapshot to fully encompass human emotion at its peak.
