Design Direction

Do you have a challenging space or need some design guidance? Design Direction is a chance for you to submit photos or videos of your design challenge(s) and a Vastu interior designer will provide you with some help. Every Wednesday we will feature one reader’s submission.

Please help! I purchased a home about a year and a half ago and this is the bathroom I inherited.  I’m finally ready to tackle this project, but I’m not sure where to start.  I’d like the bathroom to have a more neutral palette – blues, greys, etc.  The current decor is not that all…  Any and all suggestions welcome.

Wow, you are right…this bathroom is anything but neutral! Whether you are doing this project yourself or enlisting professional help, here is what you need to do:

First, clear the room out. Take down the fabric valance over the window, the mirror over the sink, and then remove that wallpaper! Once you have the room stripped down to the bare bones you can begin the transformation to the neutral and simple space that you envision. Decide if you want to paint the walls, or if you want to go with new (neutral) wallpaper. If you don’t love the existing mirror, there are endless options out there; you won’t have any problem finding one that suits your style.

Since the bathroom is a small space, all you need to do after that is choose accessories and a piece of art or two to complete the new look. For the window, I would suggest an updated fabric shade, maybe with a fun pattern. You will also need to find a new rug and linens that fit in with your new color palette. You have a little work to do, but in no time at all you will be enjoying your new beautiful bathroom!
