Hello,
I recently purchased this chair from Craigslist to serve as a side chair in a small living room. I had grand ideas for re-purposing the chair, but got to the hardware store and realized I didn’t know what I was doing. What type of paint is best for painting the wood? I’d like to achieve a shiny, black finish. Thanks!
What do you think?

This is a great classically shaped chair. To paint the frame black first off remove the seat completely. It will likely be screwed into the frame from the underside. You can buy black automotive spray paint and build up light layers one at a time taking steel wool or fine sandpaper to the frame in between layers. Or you could try bringing it to an automotive paint shop and have them paint it in a spray booth (well-ventilated, professional are in which to paint). I would suggest recovering the seat in some modern, unexpected textile like one from the mid-Century. This tension between the classical frame and the modern textile will make this a show stopper in any room!
