People in glass houses…
…should buy really cool pendant fixtures.
For this open loft space, the clients wanted to create something modern, comfortable and dramatic. Realizing that their home could be seen from the street, they wanted to give the curious passerby a good show.
This space is the work of Vastu interior deisgner Eric Kole. The Mondrian cocktail table was the first item Eric selected. The piece has clean lines, perfect scale for the large open space, and the design makes the table a functional storage piece for books, etc. The dark, wenge exterior and red lacquer interior make the table unique. For seating, Eric selected lounge chairs that are interesting to look at from all angles and, because of the seat height and back pitch, are considered comfortable by a lot of people. The chair upholstery is a gold and red pattern to play off of the red in the table. Eric used overlapping hide rugs to anchor the space, which had been designated as the living area. The most dramatic piece, of course, is the pendant fixture. Wanting to give the clients what they wanted in terms of a “WOW” factor, Eric chose the Saturnia pendant, a fixture made of thinly cut cherry stained wood that measures 4 feet in diameter. In the end, the goal to have an area that met the clients needs both aesthetically and functionally was achieved. And they certainly got the drama they wanted - often being stopped and questioned about their light fixture by neighbors.
