Do you have a challenging space or need some design guidance? Design Direction is a chance for you to submit photos or videos of your design challenge(s) and a Vastu interior designer will provide you with some help. Every Wednesday we will feature one reader’s submission.

Hi,

I’ve submitted an image of a small nook off of my dining room.  Right now I just have some random pieces in the space, but I would like to use it as an office area.  What kind of desk and desk chair should I look for that will be functional office furniture, but not look random compared to the dining room furniture.  I have a glass dining room table I plan to keep and upholstered chairs I’d like to replace soon.

Thanks!

You have the right idea from what I see in the photo, it just lacks a little character. I would replace what looks like a tray folding table with a small desk that includes a drawer for storage. Then, I would suggest you purchase one additional dining chair to also act as your desk chair when you decide to replace your dining table and chairs; this will also coordinate nicely when an additional place setting is added to the table. Overall, the nook should remain clean and lack clutter, so I would hang a few floating shelves above the desk, add a couple accessories for the purpose of aesthetics, top your desk with a small desk lamp and put your space to use!
